Board hears discipline data; administrators describe targeted support and interventions at Table Rock

District discipline staff presented March discipline data, noting a modest decline in average daily referrals compared with the previous year and describing targeted work at Table Rock Elementary.

The presenter said the district averaged about 68.5 referrals per school day for the period compared with 70.8 the prior year and that the drop in referrals is encouraging. The presenter described a Table Rock incentive program in which students with zero referrals for March received additional recess; staff said 548 of about 680 students at Table Rock had zero referrals in March.

Board members pressed for details: whether disciplinary data was tied to academic performance, how the district handles family engagement and communication prior to formal referrals, and the frequency and definition of "classroom clears" (moving students out of a classroom during a disruptive episode). The presenter said staff make phone calls for referrals and encourage teachers to call parents for earlier warning conversations; most parent engagement was described as positive but staff acknowledged some disagreements occur and that identification for IEP or 504 services sometimes happens later than ideal.

On classroom clears, staff said the practice is most common in early grades and typically involves moving other students out of a kindergarten or primary classroom until staff secure the environment. The presenter said room clears are relatively infrequent district‑wide and that a small number of students cause a disproportionate number of incidents. The discipline team said it meets regularly to revise matrices and coordinate K–12 responses and will continue to work with buildings to standardize messaging and interventions.
