Public Works updates: manhole rehabilitation, grit washer delivery and rebid of tanks return to council for award

City staff told the Imperial City Council that several Public Works projects are advancing and will be returned to the council for contract award. David Dale, the city's in-house licensed surveyor and a Public Works speaker, said crews cleaned storm debris quickly and that the manhole rehabilitation/replacement project continues on schedule with a planned completion in late September. "Our crews did a great job cleaning up after the storms that we had in the last week, and everything is back to normal," Dale said. Council staff also confirmed the grit washer—approved by council for purchase on Feb. 19—was delivered last week and installers will begin work in September. Public Works reported the city had previously rejected bids for an 8-inch tank and a shop tank, then rebid the work; the lowest returned bid is approximately $277,000 less than the first round of bids. Staff said they plan to present the award recommendation at the next council meeting. Council members asked about potential weather impacts to schedules; staff said localized flooding from recent storms had been addressed and the projects remained on track but could be affected by additional rain. No formal council action on these projects was taken at the meeting; staff will return with procurement awards and additional contract documents for council approval.
