County seeks architect quote for solid-waste shop interior design and utilities

Jefferson County staff recommended the board engage MBW architects to produce interior design drawings for the county’s new solid-waste shop so the county can identify slab stub-ups, mechanical, electrical and plumbing needs.
Staff said MBW would produce drawings that define the location of stub-ups, electrical sizing, gas lines and data conduit, and would also perform required safety and code reviews. “It starts the whole chain of events,” staff said, noting the drawings would inform grading and foundation work and identify required bearing wall footings if a mezzanine or second-floor storage area is included.
Staff emphasized the county will request a price quote before engaging MBW; the board did not take final action to execute an agreement but directed staff to obtain the cost estimate and return. Staff estimated the design work could cost in the range of $6,000–$10,000, though the exact quote was pending.
The county indicated previous coordination with Scott Nelson (a recently retired NBW principal) and transition of responsibilities to another principal, and staff said they had met with solid-waste operators to develop the project program.
No contract was signed at the meeting; staff will request a formal MBW price proposal and then seek authorization to proceed according to the county’s procurement practices.
