Commissioners reported that the county’s public-safety director, Chad Strobel, notified them of an early-morning explosion at the former Walnut Ridge Elementary building in the borough of Ellwood City. The chair said the notification arrived about 3 a.m.; commissioners said they were not aware of reported injuries and thanked county and borough first responders for their response and coordination.
