The Wright County Board unanimously adopted Ordinance 25‑3 on Aug. 19, amending county land‑use rules to add performance standards for backyard chickens, restrict dynamic signs to one digital change per calendar day, restore farm equipment sales to the general agricultural district as an interim use, and convert personal cell towers back to conditional use permits.
Barry (staff) explained the amendments were intended as corrective and clarifying changes. He said a prior conversion of conditional use permits to interim use permits during adoption of a mining ordinance inadvertently removed farm equipment sales; this amendment restores that allowance. He said cell tower companies’ underwriters objected to interim use permits because interim permits often require a new permit on sale, so the county returned personal cell towers to conditional use permitting.
A planning commission public hearing had been held. Staff confirmed written ordinance language and underlining to show additions would be clarified before final execution and summary publication. A resident had testified at the planning commission hearing in favor of chickens; officials said no substantive opposition remained at adoption.
The board voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 25‑3 and to approve summary publication of the ordinance.
