County appoints two commissioners to canvassing board for expedited Senate district absentee count

Wright County election staff told the Board of Commissioners on Aug. 19 that absentee ballots for a short, special Senate District election had been mailed and county offices will offer in‑person absentee voting before Election Day. Tyler, an elections staff member, said the office mailed ballots to the permanent absentee list and those who requested them and encouraged voters who received mailed ballots to drop them off at the taxpayer services counter for timely processing.
The county will be open for absentee voting during regular business hours and on the preceding Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tyler said. Staff said absentee vote processing requires a canvassing board and asked the board to appoint two commissioners who are not residents of the contested district to serve.
Commissioner Shane volunteered and Commissioner Holland also agreed. The board voted unanimously to appoint Commissioner Shane and Commissioner Holland to the canvassing board for the upcoming certification, with the board noting the canvass must occur on Wednesday the 27th as stated by elections staff.
No changes to ballot text or endorsement language were made; elections staff clarified endorsements are a party process and do not appear on the ballot.
