Barron Library asks county for roughly $30,000 to close operating shortfall; endowment restrictions limit options

Representatives of the Barron Library told the Henry County commission Aug. 26 they are operating with an annual deficit and requested county assistance to balance the library—s budget. Danny Nelson described the local cooperative library system and said the Barron Library, a private nonprofit established by the Barron family, has an endowment that is restricted to certain capital uses and cannot be used for routine operating expenses.
