The purchase matters because the district's existing van is "literally its last leg," Jesse said, and the new truck is intended to reduce maintenance downtime and support recycling operations. Jesse added that the district had budgeted funds in the general fund to cover the purchase.
During discussion, commissioners asked whether drivers would need commercial driver's licenses. Jesse said the selected specification keeps the vehicle under CDL thresholds (no air brakes), "so anybody would be able to drive this," and that the district has at least one driver with a CDL. The board also confirmed insurance costs had been budgeted.
Mayor Mark Myers moved to approve the purchase; Susie seconded. The board approved the motion by a voice vote (ayes). No vote tally by name was recorded in the transcript.
The district director said the county fleet office managed qualification and bidding, and that the quoted base price for the chassis was approximately $45,001; the upfit, box and liftgate brought the total to the figure presented.
