County reports completion and progress on several road and bridge projects

County highway staff updated the committee Sept. 2, 2025 on recent project work including the Golden Bridge reopening, PJ Keller Highway nearing completion, Stringtown Road resurfacing, Kruger Bridge latex overlay and grooving, Tawanda Gridley Road binder application, and a Cooksville Road mill-and-resurface project.
County highway staff summarized multiple completed and ongoing infrastructure projects during the Sept. 2, 2025 meeting of the McLean County Land Use and Transportation Committee.
Jerry Stokes reported the Golden (North Leroy) bridge reopened Aug. 12 with shoulders and guardrail installed. The federally funded PJ Keller Highway project is near completion and is expected to come in close to final cost estimates; field crews performed shoulder grading and other finishing work. Stringtown Road received a cold-in-place recycle for roughly 4 miles plus a mill-and-resurface on about 2 miles; striping work was in progress. The Kruger Bridge west of Hudson received a latex overlay, approach pads and deck profiling followed by grooving to provide traction and aid water runoff; Stokes explained the crew scarified the deck to remove damaged concrete before overlay, then profiled and grooved the surface. Tawanda Gridley Road had primer and binder applied on the north end and crews expected to finish binder placement over several days. Cooksville Road received a short mill-and-resurface that county staff said cost roughly $200,000 to $210,000 and was completed in about four days.
Committee members commended staff and contractors for the quality of the work and for accommodating equipment travel by setting back guardrails on new bridges where feasible. No votes were required for project-summary items; staff said specific construction-cost resolutions and contract awards would be brought forward to the committee when appropriate.
