Arts staff updates commission on programs, master plan timeline and events

Arts and Culture staff gave a program update including the Arts & Culture guide, a department connect guide, class and performance bookings, and current exhibits. Staff introduced event coordinators Lauren Hayden and Daniel Dominique and said the Bailey Johnson documentary is available on the department website. The art-center exhibition "Cutting Loose: The Art of Collage" is on view; staff also noted front-terrace concerts and a "Battle of the Bands" application process with support being sought from the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau for prize money. Staff said the arts-and-culture master plan was presented at a council workshop and is tentatively scheduled for final approval on Sept. 22, pending calendar constraints. Staff also noted that AlphaLoop public art has increased from four to six pieces and that two more (the sculptures discussed during the meeting) would bring the total to eight if approved. No formal commission action was taken on programming items during the meeting; staff asked commissioners to help promote sign-ups for upcoming shows and classes.
