City reports AV system procurement, pool maintenance, smoke testing and lighting changes

Staff updated the council on an AV/sound contract, annual pool maintenance that may delay reopening, upcoming smoke testing communications and a streetlight LED/dark-sky project; staff also noted only two applicants had applied so far for a council vacancy.
City staff provided several operational updates. Alyssa, a city staff member, said the council chambers AV/sound/video contract was awarded to Key Code Media, equipment is on order and installation is expected this winter. She said an ordered dais is awaited before programming the system.
Alyssa also reported the municipal pool is in its annual maintenance closure; locker rooms were painted, floors are being sandblasted and recoated and interior painting is scheduled. Contractors missed some prep steps and the painting delay could postpone reopening; staff said they would notify members if reopening is affected.
On smoke testing, Barry said additional smoke testing will occur in the weeks ahead; staff acknowledged door-hanger notices and other messaging had not sufficiently explained the exercise and are revising outreach materials. Councilors asked staff to include testing notices in the newsletter and other communications.
James, a staff member, described the conversion to LED streetlights with a dark-sky-compliant option; he said lighting calibration can take about two months and shield/damper adjustments are available if illumination is excessive.
Councilors also discussed the open council vacancy. Staff reported two official applicants to date and indicated they could consider moving the application deadline if council wished; councilors authorized staff discretion on scheduling and publicity to increase response.
No formal motions were made; staff will continue procurement and maintenance work and improve public notice for testing and potential pool-reopening changes.
