Victoria County names Daniel Porter as county fire marshal; oath administered

The Victoria County Commissioners Court on Monday appointed Daniel Porter as the county fire marshal and administered the bond and oath of office, making his appointment effective immediately.

"I, Daniel Porter... do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of county fire marshal of Victoria County," Porter repeated while taking the oath. The court recessed briefly for signatures and then presented Porter with a badge.

Porter gave a brief summary of his background for residents and others watching online. "Started my public safety or I guess civic duties, at 17, joining the military, United States Navy. Was a fireman and a police officer in the Navy. When I got out, I went through medic school," Porter said, and added he has worked "many years with the sheriff's office and many years in the fire marshal's office." Court members thanked the interim staff who maintained the office until Porter’s arrival.

The court voted to approve the appointment and the bond and oath of office; the clerk recorded the motion as approved by voice vote. The commissioners said they expect Porter to lead the office and support volunteer fire departments and praised his experience.

This was a formal appointment item; the court approved the motion to appoint Porter and to accept his bond and oath.
