Banner County tables levy‑allocation resolution after museum asks to reduce request

Sharon Sandra of Harrisburg asked the Banner County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 5 to reduce the Banner County Historical Society’s levy request from $20,000 to $11,000 because she concluded the organization’s levy authority would permit only the lower amount.
Sandra said the museum had extensive hail damage and initially asked for $20,000 in the meeting packet, but that she believed local levy limits would constrain the award to about $11,000: “I didn't want you to approve the 20,000 and waste your 5¢ on something that we couldn't budget anyway,” she told the board, and asked commissioners to accept $11,000 if possible.
Board members discussed allowable growth and stored levy authority, and staff advised further research would be needed about whether the museum could legally receive the full requested amount or only the smaller sum. Commissioner Don withdrew the initial motion and moved to table Resolution 25‑17, the final allocation of levy authority to political subdivisions, until the board’s next regular meeting. That tabling motion was seconded and approved by roll call. No final allocation was adopted on Aug. 5.
