The Senate Conservation Committee voted 5–3 to advance a committee substitute for Senate Bill 262, a citizen‑science and natural heritage data proposal that was significantly narrowed from its original draft. The substitute appropriates state funds to hire volunteer coordinators in two state agencies and provides a grant to Natural Heritage New Mexico (a unit of the University of New Mexico’s Museum of Southwestern Biology) to host data infrastructure and outreach.
