Board members noted potential conflicts of interest if a retired technician who helps craft procurement documents later bids on work; they also raised that a part‑time hire could act as a conduit between the district and county, fire and other agencies when coordinating project scopes and funding requests.
Staff did not present a specific job description or salary at the May 8 meeting; the board asked staff to return with estimated costs and draft language for the budget packet. No hiring action was taken at the meeting.
