Commissioners approve contract with Spindle Media for cloud-based tax collection software

Coryell County Commissioners approved a contract with Spindle Media to replace the county's current tax-collection software with a cloud-based system.

The tax assessor-collector told the court the county's current server is at end of life and that continuing with the legacy vendor would require expensive hardware replacement. Spindle Media's cloud software would eliminate the county's on-site server needs and includes a one-time conversion and training cost. Spindle offered the county a three-year payment option to spread conversion costs; annual subscription costs after the initial payment term are similar to the county's current software expense, staff said.

The vendor's product is already used in multiple Texas counties, staff said, and the county's tax office recommended a go-live date of April 1, 2026 to avoid disrupting the 2026 tax season. The court approved the contract by motion; the assessor-collector and vendor will finalize signatures and begin the conversion process.

Commissioners said they expect the new system to improve online payment experiences for taxpayers and to reduce recurring hardware-replacement costs.
