The Allen County Board of Commissioners approved two project coordination contracts with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to secure federal-aid reimbursements for right-of-way services on two bridge projects.
County highway staff described the Cuba Road project (Bridge No. 24 over the Oberholtzer Ditch, project number 0100221) located north of Harlan and east of Greybull; the work will widen the bridge to roughly 36–38 feet and lengthen the structure to improve waterway flow. The project coordination contract covers approximately 80% of the estimated costs for right-of-way engineering and acquisition and the board approved a contract amount of $14,560 for the coordination services.
The board also approved a coordination contract for Woodburn Road (Bridge No. 51 over the Grover No. 2 Drain, project number 0100321) in an amount of $6,112; staff said the Woodburn project will widen the structure and add width on the north side to accommodate a trail between the high school and the town of Woodburn. Highway staff explained bridge prioritization is driven by regular inspections and federal-aid rating processes; bridges are inspected biennially and rated for priorities, and road PACER ratings are updated roughly every four years as part of the county asset-management program.
Commissioners moved and seconded both INDOT project coordination contracts and approved them by voice vote.
