Russell County School Board certifies executive session under Virginia Code

The Russell County School Board voted to certify that its executive session covered only matters lawfully exempt from Virginia's open‑meetings requirements under Virginia Code §2.2‑3711(A)(1), (A)(3), (A)(7) and (A)(8), board members said during the meeting.

The certification motion was moved by Mr. Ball, who told the board: “Madam chair, I move to certify to the best of our knowledge only public business matters lawfully exempt from open meeting requirements and such business matters as were identified in the motion to go in and into executive session under grounds 2.2‑3711(a)(1) personnel, 2.2‑3711(a)(3) acquisition of real properties, and 2.2‑3711(a)(7) consultation with legal counsel, and 2.2‑3711(a)(8) consultation with legal counsel in general.”

Board members signaled their approval by voice and raised hands; no opposition was recorded on the certification vote. The certification statement listed personnel matters, proposed acquisition of real property and attorney consultations as the subjects considered in private.

After certifying the closed session, the board resumed its open meeting and proceeded to the annual reorganization agenda items.
