Patchogue pursues $400,000 playground grant, readies fields and summer programs

Parks and downtown improvement updates given at the meeting also covered recently installed field lighting tests, planned installation of foul poles and distance markings at the ballfield, and coordination with PSE&G to energize concession stand power. Officials said a brief test of the new lights was successful and that a formal invitation will be issued to review lighting once the utility completes the hookup.
Village staff said Tim (identified in the meeting as village engineer Tim Norberg) and others have been using drone footage to help plan site work, and that the village is testing configuration and sight‑line impacts to limit disturbance to neighbors.
The board was also given a schedule for summer recreation: the village’s summer brochure was being mailed, registration for village residents was set to begin May 27, May 28 for non‑village residents, and open registration for all was scheduled to start May 29; a special Saturday registration event was slated for June 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Village staff also noted May 8 as the last day for the volleyball league and confirmed that the dock staff program will start in June. Several community events and ribbon cuttings were announced through May and June, and the borough will host a Hispanic cultural parade on Sunday, May 18 at noon.
On another parks project, village staff said the solar/charging station work at the train station is 90% complete but activation is delayed while the contractor secures a final piece and utility interconnection is finished (see separate update). The staff presentation emphasized that charging stations will not be made available until the solar feed is fully commissioned to prevent user confusion.
Officials asked the community to support local fundraisers that finance beautification and other events and noted leadership transitions in volunteer roles. No new appropriations for these projects were approved at the meeting; staff said grant applications are due this week for the playground replacement and that the village would be responsible for the 10% local match if the grant is awarded.
