Zoning staff reported the original conditional use permit required construction of a residence within two years; the property owners filed the required statement on March 14, 2023, and the permit was approved by resolution on April 26, 2023. The owners requested an additional year because construction has not started. Zoning staff said the accessory building on the property measures just over 800 square feet and that owners intend to add living space within the structure.
The Keith County Planning Commission reviewed the request on May 1 and recommended approval with the condition that this is a single, one‑year extension ending April 26, 2026; if the residence is not built by that date the owners must reapply for a conditional use permit and may face new conditions. Commissioner Irvin made the motion to approve the extension and Commissioner Anderson seconded; the board approved the motion by roll call.
The board’s action preserves the planning commission’s recommended condition and the requirement that the owners begin the project within the extended deadline or restart the permitting process.
Zoning staff will monitor compliance and the owners were warned that failure to meet the extended deadline will require a new application and possible additional conditions.
