Board approves funded redundant GIS server for dispatch on BCA network

Hubbard County approved an estimate from ProWest & Associates to install a redundant GIS server on the BCA network for dispatch and law enforcement, to be paid from remaining state grant funds.
Hubbard County environmental services staff told the board they will use remaining state grant dollars to pay Pro West & Associates to install a redundant GIS server on the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) network at the dispatch and law enforcement building. The separate server is needed because the BCA network must be distinct from the county’s standard network, and past outages have removed GIS functionality from dispatch.
“Because they’re on the BCA network, that has to be an entirely separate thing from the standard county networks,” the environmental services presenter explained, noting the project will keep dispatch GIS operational if the county’s primary server goes down. The plan includes synchronizing data from the main county GIS so dispatch has current address points, road layers and other mapping information used in incident response and in-car mapping for deputies.
The board approved the estimate by voice vote and noted that the work should be completed this spring and is tied to an expiring state fiscal-year grant that must be expended before year-end.
