Windcrest talks tree inventory, oak wilt mitigation and Tree City USA recognition
Texas Parks and Wildlife and the city’s Tree Preservation Committee discussed starting a citywide tree inventory, options for Tree City USA recognition, oak wilt risks and an Arbor Day event; staff and volunteers will pilot an inventory of park trees ahead of an autumn celebration.

The City of Windcrest heard a presentation from Rachel Sorrels, an urban ecologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife, on local forestry resources and next steps for a municipal tree program. Sorrels outlined resources the agency can provide, including Tree City USA guidance, tree-planting selectors and data tools such as i-Tree and the Texas A&M Forest Service catalogs.
