Parks staff to complete master plan in‑house; pool bids, trail solar lights and recent tree work reported

Parks and grounds foreman Keith Taylor updated the Converse Parks and Recreation Commission on maintenance work and upcoming projects at the Jan. 13 meeting.
Taylor said crews removed a dying pecan tree and trimmed an oak at the historic Schumann house in mid-December. Solar lights for the North Park trail have been ordered and are expected to arrive within a week.
On larger projects, Taylor said the city council elected not to contract outside professional services for a parks master plan; staff will now prepare the plan in-house. Taylor also said the city will issue invitations for bids for swimming-pool construction work and expects the city pool to open in May if the procurement and construction schedule stays on track.
Commissioners thanked crews for the tree work and asked about road issues and Rocket Lane; staff noted such items are not on the commission agenda and should be directed to council or appropriate city staff. Taylor closed his update with no additional items.
The commission did not take a vote on procurement items at this meeting; staff said formal procurement steps (invitations for bids) are forthcoming.
