Council approves small amendment to Unified Development Code to reflect charter changes

The Schertz City Council unanimously approved ordinance 25S012, a mostly editorial amendment to the Unified Development Code that removes language tied to a two‑reading ordinance process no longer required under recent charter changes.
Samuel Haas, senior planner, told the council the change is "fairly straightforward" and would remove provisions in Article 5, section 21.5.4(e)(4) that pertained to protest votes and the interval between first and second readings. Haas said the amendments make notice language consistent with current practice and reflect the charter amendment voters approved.
The Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on March 5, 2025 and recommended approval by a 6–0 vote. No members of the public spoke during Tuesday’s council public hearing. Council member Brown made the motion to approve the ordinance; Council member Watson seconded. The vote was 6–0 in favor.
