GUNTER, Texas — City staff told the Gunter City Council on May 13 that they had asked for a two‑to three‑month extension of the current residential trash contract to finish vendor evaluations and allow an eight‑week lead time if the city selects a new provider.
Staff said they have met with at least one vendor and will meet with Republic soon. They reported finding contract provisions that “left money on the table” in the current agreement and said they are evaluating billing options and cost estimates for either a new provider or city‑managed billing.
Staff noted Republic’s preliminary stance that a new contract would include a 4% automatic increase. Councilman Richards participated in vendor meetings, and staff said the procurement process is taking longer than expected as they gather information and questions from potential providers.
Separately, staff noted the city posted sealed bids for a 2002 Freightliner to be opened May 22; no sealed bids had been submitted as of the meeting. Staff also reported receipt of payment from Grayson County for the city’s patch truck and that funds will be applied to repair the city’s portion of Sharp Road.
