The borough engineer reported Feb. 5 that the contractor on the galvanized water service line replacement project (Phase 3) has completed service replacements at 104 of 298 properties, roughly 33% of the total, and has started work on Third Avenue with an estimated one to two weeks to complete that street.
Joe Byrne, the borough engineer, told the council the county road opening permit for Diamond Bridge Avenue was still pending as of Jan. 31. Byrne also updated the council on other capital projects: the Franklin Field press box and bleachers have been installed and electrical work was scheduled to take place the week of the report; the Lafayette Avenue Streetscape Phase 3 team held a preconstruction meeting and construction is anticipated to begin in the spring after long-lead items (light poles, tree grates) are ordered; Boswell performed a partial topographic survey for Waggro Fields 2 and 3 in preparation for site plans.
Why it matters: Replacing galvanized service lines reduces the borough's risk of service failures and water-quality problems tied to older piping. The status on Franklin Field and other recreation-site improvements ties to accessibility and the borough's pending grant applications for ADA-compliant bleachers.
Details reported
