Brett Bacon, deputy administrator for Soil and Water, told the board the project was originally approved in 2022 and the estimate used at that time reflected 2021 prices. He said the county has advertised the project for bid three separate times and received no bids the last two attempts; on an earlier attempt the one bid received was about $40,000 higher than the construction estimate. Bacon told the commissioners the estimate is now behind the recent run-up in construction costs and recommended a re-estimate.
The board voted in favor of Resolution 25-229 directing staff to re-estimate the project. Commissioners noted that re-estimation will likely require reconvening involved parties and that staff will then return to the board with an updated estimate; the motion was recorded as a unanimous aye vote.
