Weld County issues April proclamations and honors long‑time facilities employee

Crime victims and advocacy: The board proclaimed April 6–12, 2025 as National Crime Victims Rights Week. Michael Rourke, the Weld County District Attorney, introduced and thanked local victim‑service organizations and advocates for their work. Rourke noted current funding uncertainty for some victim services and urged continued community and governmental support. "These doors cannot be shuttered, the lights must remain on, and the phones must not go unanswered," Rourke said.
Young children and child‑abuse prevention: The board declared the week of April 5–11, 2025 as the Week of the Young Child, citing United Way of Weld County and the Early Childhood Council partnership. Adriana Carrillo, assistant director of early childhood initiatives at United Way of Weld County, described the Northern Colorado Children's Festival goals: put a book in every child's hands, provide hands‑on activities, promote fun and connect families to resources.
The board also proclaimed April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and the county highlighted its Lighthouse Prevention Program, which staff said used the Strengthening Families Protective Factors framework and supported more than 240 families in 2024.
Fair housing: Commissioners proclaimed April 2025 as Fair Housing Month, noting the federal Fair Housing Act of 1968 and Colorado law that adds source of income and veteran/military status as protected classes.
Facilities employee recognition: The board presented a certificate of achievement to Ignacio ("Nacho") Aguilar of the Weld County facilities department in recognition of service from June 9, 1997 to April 1, 2025. Patrick O'Neil of the facilities department described Aguilar's work: "He started off in facilities department 1997... he took a lot of pride in his work ... the whole notion of curb appeal really started with Ignacio and his efforts on grounds," O'Neil said. Commissioners offered thanks and best wishes.
