Commission approves three contractor bids for county home repairs, rebids two projects

Hendry County commissioners on May 13 accepted three bids from a contractor for small home repair projects and authorized rebidding two additional properties after one contractor’s submissions were incomplete.
Emily Hunter, Hendry County community relations and legislative director, told the commission the items had been rebid after the board rejected a sole bid earlier this year. Hunter said two contractors submitted proposals; one contractor’s submissions were incomplete and staff recommended accepting three completed bids and returning two projects to bid.
Hunter identified the three projects recommended for award as 1227 Louisiana Avenue, 12206 Virginia Avenue and 1041 Mississippi Avenue; the two projects to be rebid were 1231 Louisiana Avenue and 317 East Of Bispo/Bispel Avenue (transcript spelling). The three recommended awards were each for work at or below $50,000, Hunter said. A commissioner stated the incomplete bid lacked required paperwork and did not cover the full scope.
One commissioner disclosed a recent business relationship with one of the contractors and abstained from the vote. Commissioner House (as recorded in the meeting) moved to accept the three complete submissions and authorize rebid of the two incomplete projects; Commissioner Wills seconded. The motion passed by voice vote with the abstention recorded.
Why this matters: The awards cover small housing repair contracts for county‑owned or county‑managed properties and will proceed once contract paperwork is completed; two projects will be rebid because of incomplete bid submissions.
