Sumner County commissioners approved a resolution May 5 recognizing work by state agencies on drainage improvements in the Cotton Town area.
Commissioners said Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) stepped in to clear creek sections and obtain necessary permits after county processes stalled. A commissioner noted the agencies’ involvement “was kind of special” because those state agencies do not typically engage so directly in local drainage cleanups.
The resolution cites a $10,000 budget request associated with the effort and that portions of the creek were cleared in the southwest and northeast sections of the area. Commissioners said additional work remains between the county and adjacent private property owners.
Supporters framed the recognition as building a stronger relationship with state agencies that could assist in future projects and noted the recognition may strengthen the agencies’ record when they seek additional funding. The commission approved the resolution by voice vote.
