Lewis County recessed the public hearing on Ordinance 13-63 to allow staff time to revise proposed language that would allow recording property liens as special assessments under the county's code-enforcement chapter.
Mindy Brooks, director of community development, presented the staff report and said the ordinance would amend Chapter 1.2 of the Lewis County Code, which defines code-enforcement authority, process and staff actions. "Staff are requesting that the commissioners recess this hearing and continue it to next week to May 20 at 10AM because we would like to add language regarding recording a property lien as a special assessment," Brooks said.
Brooks said the revised language had been provided as a read-ahead and staff asked leave to update Exhibit A in the packet before a longer presentation at the continued hearing. The commissioners opened a question-and-answer period and then opened the record for public testimony; no public testimony was offered at the meeting.
Commissioner Swope moved to recess the hearing until at or after 10 a.m. on May 20, 2025, and to leave the hearing open for public testimony during that time. The motion was seconded, commissioners voted "Aye," and the motion passed.
The hearing will resume on May 20 at 10 a.m., when staff will present the revised exhibit and accept public testimony and formal consideration of Ordinance 13-63.
