The county's Economic Development Authority presented a strategic plan designed to promote business development, sustainable growth and enhanced collaboration among county boards and commissions.
An EDA representative read the plan's mission: "to support business development and sustainable economic growth in order to improve the quality of life assistance through strategic public investment, access to higher paying jobs, and access quality work opportunities," and said the plan emphasizes inclusivity, transparency and coordination with regional partners.
The EDA said no board action was required at the presentation but requested future joint sessions with the Board of Supervisors, the planning commission and soil and water representatives to align objectives. Ron Haley, chairman of the Economic Development Authority, was present and described the plan as a roadmap for future economic-development work.
Supervisors praised the plan. "It's a wonderful foundation that has been needed for a long time," one supervisor said, and board members said they looked forward to implementation and future reports.
Why it matters: The strategic plan aims to guide county efforts to attract private investment, support existing businesses, and coordinate across county committees and regional partners. Implementation will likely involve follow-up meetings and possible budget or policy proposals in later sessions.
Next steps: The EDA and county staff plan joint sessions to operationalize the plan and return to the board with implementation proposals and potential funding needs.
