County IT work increases after boardroom and software changes, officials say

Stephenson County committee members on May 12 were told recent technology changes and planned upgrades will increase the workload for county IT staff.
A committee member reported that IT staffer Nate "has got a whole laundry list of things he's working on" including configuring the boardroom and phone systems. The committee member said the boardroom work is scheduled for the week of May 19 and that phone configuration will be largely complete, but added that software changes will require uninstalling and reinstalling applications on many county PCs. "It sounds like it's going to be a lot more work for Nate than what he thought it was going to be," the member said.
Members discussed whether part-time or temporary help should be hired to assist IT through the project; no formal motion was offered. The committee noted the county saved approximately $100,000 on an earlier procurement but that the savings may have increased the workload for existing staff. Committee members asked administration to meet with IT to assess the scope and, if necessary, bring a staffing request to a future meeting.
