Harvey County Economic Development Council reports several industrial projects, workforce and site‑development work

Beth (Harvey County Economic Development Council) updated the Harvey County Board of Commissioners on ongoing commercial and industrial development projects during the May 6 meeting.
Beth told the board that CD Customs has completed a roughly 70,000‑square‑foot building in the county industrial park and is moving in. She said Hillsborough Industries is behind schedule but expects a fall move‑in, and GAF has hired about 10 local workers and will hold a groundbreaking event in June. Midwest Transformers has expanded over several years and now employs about 50 people at the airport facility, she said.
Beth described a pair of state‑referred prospects that are considering BNSF‑certified sites east of the CD Customs location and said the EDC is optimistic about site visits. She said the EDC has hired Garner Economics to update a competitive realities report and that the consultant will produce recommendations and a final report to be presented at the EDC’s October meeting.
Beth said the EDC is assessing industrial park expansion to preserve square, buildable parcels often requested by manufacturers. She also highlighted a BRICS/CTE recognition event: the county recognized about 80 career‑technical education students with certificates this year, up from roughly 18 when the program began.
Commissioners asked whether rail service would be used for new projects; Beth said rail‑served land and a state grant are in play and that bids will be issued to extend the rail into the industrial area. She said CD Customs will market its existing buildings through a realtor and the EDC will include them in site materials.
No board votes were required following the presentation.
