Planning commission backs sign code updates; forwards text amendment to trustees

The Canton Township Planning Commission voted May 5 to recommend amendments to multiple sections of the zoning ordinance governing signs and forward the proposed text changes to the Township Board of Trustees for review.
The motion, made by Commissioner Watkins and supported by Commissioner Egenberger, listed amendments to several articles and sections of the zoning ordinance and was approved by roll-call vote with all commissioners present voting yes. Staff said most substantive items, including commercial sign sizes of interest to businesses, were not expected to change; any legal edits would be highlighted to the board.
Patrick, planning division staff, said the package includes summaries and links to prior meeting materials and that only a few outstanding legal items remain under review. The commission opened a short public hearing but no public speakers offered comment on the sign amendments.
Staff advised the commission that the sign ordinance amendment will likely be scheduled for the Board of Trustees’ first reading on June 10, followed by a second reading and Board action later in June or July.
