Planning commission recommends county adopt 2024 International Fire Code

The Laramie County Planning Commission voted to recommend that the Laramie County Board of County Commissioners adopt the 2024 editions of the International Code Council building and fire codes and related local amendments.

County planning staff told the commission Laramie County has served as the issuing authority for building permits since adopting the international building codes in February 2003. Staff said the state Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety adopted the 2024 editions, and Wyoming statutes cited in the staff report require local jurisdictions that are delegated enforcement authority to adopt standards that meet statewide requirements within six months of the state's adoption. Staff also noted rulemaking for local adoption is subject to Wyoming state statute 16-3-103 and a 45-day notice and comment period. The county published notice by Resolution No. 181016-17 on Feb. 18, 2025; staff reported no public comments had been received at the time the report was prepared.

The public-hearing portion of the meeting produced no speakers. A motion to recommend adoption of the 2024 codes and the proposed local amendments passed on roll call; Commissioners Stottle, Tafoya and Acting Chairman Watkins recorded affirmative votes. The commission's vote is a recommendation; final adoption would be made by the Laramie County Board of County Commissioners if and when it takes up the matter.
