Elko County GIS adds 119 address points; county seeks Google Maps corrections

Andrew Meek, GIS technician with Elko County, reported that 119 address points were added to county records during recent updates; 101 of those were in the City of Elko. Meek said many of the new points are for subdivisions under development and for campus buildings at Great Basin College.
Meek told the board he added county roads such as H Street and JLJ Ranches in Montello that had previously been omitted and corrected address ranges where possible. He raised a recurring address-validation issue on West First Street in the City of Elko that has affected dispatch; he said he has reached out to Motorola for a solution and may need to coordinate with the City of Elko’s GIS staff because the county maintains county road data but obtains city road data from the city’s GIS team.
Meek also noted an addressing discussion affecting South Fork Indian Reservation (SFIR) Lee Road, where tribal entities previously debated changes; the county was advised to retain the existing name. Meek said two small annexations (one near Great Basin/Carlin Trend Drive and one for Studio of Elko) are on hold due to a right-of-way issue but will be reflected in GIS once resolved. He reported submitting PSAP boundary adjustments to Intrado to remove West Wendover and Oahe from the county’s PSAP display and is working on tablet-command layers for the fire district, including hydrants and station locations.
To improve public mapping, Meek said he has used Google Maps’ content-partner editing program and submitted two datasets for review; processing took about four days in his tests. He noted one direct edit for a missing road in Pilot Valley remains “in progress.” Meek asked chiefs and field users to report problem areas on Google Maps so he can expedite corrections.
Meek also said the town-limit boundary for Jackpot was updated to reflect a larger legal description; much of the expanded area is public land (BLM) but the change affects how the county’s public-facing GIS displays the town limits. Finally, Meek reminded the board that a Motorola Spillman boundary update is scheduled soon and invited any boundary corrections to be sent to him ahead of that update.
Meek did not provide an exact timetable for all corrections; several items (annexations and right-of-way issues) remain contingent on actions by other agencies or departments.
