The Elko County TV District board approved replacing obsolete transmitters at the Rendon site and selected equipment from Technologics after a staff recommendation and contractor input.
District technician Peyton reviewed two quotes: a Technologics option priced at about $59,562 and an AnyWave option priced higher at about $69,480. Peyton recommended the Technologics equipment for the Rendon installation, citing software-upgradeability and compatibility with future ATSC-3 upgrades.
“Technologics’ exciter or transcoder would be better to have because it is able to be upgraded with a license to ATSC 3 if the field goes that direction,” Peyton said. He also noted the AnyWave amplifiers are high-power and that the site’s low licensed outputs make a 250-watt amplifier unnecessary.
Board members emphasized maintaining common equipment families to ease maintenance, but supported using Technologics at Rendon as a test site because Rendon is accessible year-round and the equipment can be upgraded by software rather than returned to the factory.
The motion to purchase Technologics transmitters and have district contractor Complete Management (installation) proceed passed by voice vote. Staff will request an updated quote, issue a purchase order and schedule installation and testing under the district’s maintenance contract.
