County judge reports backup generator issue at courthouse jail; part expected Friday

Jefferson County officials told the Commissioners Court Tuesday that a failed control board for the courthouse backup generator has prevented required weekly and monthly load testing for the jail’s backup power system.
The county judge said the county was informed that the generator’s control board had failed and that the state jail standards commission requires weekly testing and a monthly load test to ensure backup power for the jail and courthouse. The judge said the county could face inspection findings if testing was missed while the generator was down.
The judge initially said the part would take "at least 3 weeks to get the part in to restore power." Later in the meeting a county staff member reported an update: "The part's supposed to be here Friday and installed and back in service Friday. They were able to find it, and they expedited it to have it shipped." The court said it would check with the jail standards commission about inspection timing and, if necessary, hold an emergency meeting or place the item on the next regular agenda.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; the court asked staff to follow up with the jail standards commission and to notify the court if further steps were needed.
