Commissioners OK courthouse parking for weekend Logan shuttle

Karen Raymore, a downtown Logan shuttle organizer, told the Hocking County Board of Commissioners on April 3 that a weekend shuttle service will resume on Memorial Day weekend and asked permission to allow shuttle riders to use the courthouse parking lot.
Raymore said the service will run Saturdays and Sundays from about 9 a.m. to about 5 p.m., start the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and run through the last weekend of October. "This year, we're gonna have 2 vehicles. So 1 will do nothing but go back and forth from Downtown Logan out to, right in front of the park office where the campground where he check-in for the campground... and then the other 1 will do the loop," she said, describing the loop as stopping near Ash Cave, Cedar Falls and Old Man's Cave and taking about 45 minutes.
The shuttle organizer said one vehicle will run a continuous downtown-to-park shuttle to bring visitors downtown and support local businesses, while the second will loop through park attractions. She said Hocking Hills Tourism Association (HHTA) is funding the program and that the county's courthouse lot would be used for weekend parking and shuttle boarding. Raymore also said she and Logan Transit are preparing schedules and that permanent seasonal signage will be installed and removed each year.
Why it matters: Logan and the Hocking Hills state parks draw heavy weekend traffic; providing a shuttle and downtown boarding could reduce roadside parking and safety risks near the parks while directing visitors to local businesses.
Commissioners made a formal motion to allow the weekend use of the courthouse parking lot for shuttle parking and boarding and the motion carried by voice vote with all in favor. The board discussed logistics briefly during the meeting and did not add conditions beyond standard coordination with county staff.
The commissioners did not set a county-managed schedule for the shuttle but asked staff to coordinate logistics and signage with the organizer and Logan Transit. Raymore said the shuttle will have a posted schedule so riders can plan return trips.
The commissioners' approval covers Saturday-Sunday shuttle operation only; Raymore noted the courthouse lot is closed on weekdays and that the shuttle will run only on weekends.
