Board approves Pleasant Valley Junior High partial roof replacement with R3 Roofing

The Pleasant Valley Community School District board approved a low bid from R3 Roofing on March 24 to replace three partial roof sections at Pleasant Valley Junior High near the library.

A district staff member described repeated slow leaks in older sections of the building and presented three bids; the board accepted the base bid of $207,715 and the add‑alternate of $60,864 from R3 Roofing. Director Wachtler moved to approve the bid and Director Van Beisher seconded; the board approved the motion by roll call vote.

Staff and architects told trustees the work will address leaks east and west of the library and a section to the south. The presentation noted a small risk that metal decking beneath roofing layers could be exposed and require additional repair; architects estimated that the likelihood of that scenario was low and the unit‑price allowances should keep risk manageable.

Board members asked whether the leaks predated recent additions and whether R3 had references; staff said the leaks are in the older, original portions of the 1970 building and that they checked references and conducted follow‑up calls before recommending the low bidder.

District officials said the contractor plans to finish the work before school resumes in the fall and that the board authorized staff to proceed with the R3 Roofing contract for the Pleasant Valley Junior High partial roof replacement project.
