Kevin Cockrell, the district’s construction representative, gave trustees a progress report on 2020 bond projects, with Memorial High School and related athletics and fine-arts work advancing toward completion.
Cockrell estimated that roughly 90% of the new high school roof is complete and about 95% of the exterior, including brick and EFIS, is installed. He said the auditorium ceiling is painted and permanent lighting is installed; the commons area has ceiling work, paint and sound panels in place. Science labs, CTE spaces and band hall were described as at or near finish work, with electrical, plumbing and fixture hookups underway.
On athletics, Cockrell said indoor turf work and two practice football fields are installed, softball and baseball turf and stands are in place, and the competition field has home-side bleachers and goalposts. The ninth-grade center fine-arts addition and locker rooms, track and new turf fields are also in active construction or finishing stages.
Trustees responded with appreciation for the progress. Cockrell noted work remaining on finishes and equipment installation; no change orders or budget figures were discussed in the portions of the meeting recorded in the transcript.
