The City of Roma City Council adopted a new Development Services fee schedule with a proposed effective date of May 1, 2025, the council was told during its April meeting.
A Development Services presentation said the new schedule resulted from nearly a year of research and coordination with other municipalities and covers planning and zoning, building permits and inspections, and environmental health. Staff said the schedule aims to keep Roma’s fees competitive while increasing transparency and reducing permitting delays.
“We plan to review and update the schedule every fiscal year as needed based on feedback,” a Development Services speaker said. The presentation listed municipalities surveyed, including McAllen, Mercedes, San Juan and others, and noted “minor adjustments” had been made after a workshop and review by the fire marshal’s office.
Councilman Negosa moved to adopt the schedule; Councilwoman Rodriguez seconded the motion. The mayor called the vote and the motion passed. Minutes record the outcome as “Motion carries, 3, 4, and 2 abs.” Staff congratulated the department for completing the work and said departments would continue coordinating to implement the new fees.
