Arapahoe County updates fairgrounds programming, tightens booking rules as demand outpaces dates

Arapahoe County staff briefed the Board of County Commissioners on operations and programming at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds, reporting rising demand for the County Event Center and announcing a new, public booking process aimed at balancing county uses and revenue-generating private events.

The update matters because the fairgrounds is both a county-owned facility used for internal trainings and public programs and an enterprise fund whose revenue supports capital work. Commissioners heard that the calendar is saturated, and staff proposed limits on recurring bookings and other procedural changes to clear ambiguity for prospective users.

Director Pincheno and event operations lead Lexi described current programming and marketing efforts, the facility’s post‑COVID market shifts and an anticipated short master‑plan update. Lexi said the fairgrounds now hosts a broad mix of events — trade shows, equestrian events, community festivals and private celebrations — and that the county is seeing more requests from organizations whose prior venues closed or changed models since the pandemic.
