Community development director: city has balanced budget; House Bill 368 will require code updates

Community Development Director Mike Eggert briefed the Centerville City Planning Commission on two timely items: the city council’s budget review schedule and a large state land‑use bill that will require local code updates.

Eggert told commissioners that council budget review (budget week) was underway and that the city’s finance director and city manager reported a balanced budget. “We have a balanced budget,” he said, noting council budget sessions had run into the evening and that the remaining department presentations were scheduled for subsequent meetings.

Eggert also alerted commissioners to House Bill 368, a comprehensive state land‑use bill that staff said contains many required changes. “It’s huge; I think they said 7,000 lines,” Eggert said. He advised commissioners that staff will work with the city attorney to distill required amendments and return recommendations; some changes may go directly to council depending on where they sit in state code.

Eggert urged commissioners to pay attention to legislative updates and said staff will coordinate with the city attorney to identify mandatory code revisions and prepare a work plan for implementation.
