The county approved the highway department’s purchase of a Trimble S7 total station after staff said the department’s older instruments are obsolete and incompatible with current satellite/GPS updates. Frontier Precision quoted the demo unit at about $24,290; the department had budgeted roughly $20,000 and said used alternatives lacked available parts.
