The special education audit committee has split into four work groups focused on: a multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) process (academic and social-emotional), a placement framework with screening tools to guide placements in self-contained programs, high-quality inclusion strategies, and purposeful collaboration among staff.
Committee members said the district has formed committees of staff (roughly 60 staff members across subcommittees were referenced) to address the technical work and to develop screening tools and placement frameworks. Administrators said they plan a presentation to the full committee to wrap up one major work stream and then begin more intentional engagement with parents and EPLAC (district parent advisory) as the next phase begins.
Members requested a timeline for parent engagement and said that parental involvement would be an important next step following the technical work completed to date. Administration said it would schedule a presentation and include plans for parent participation as the project moves forward.
No vote was taken; administrators said they would present completed work and timeline in a forthcoming presentation.
