Council approves first readings and multiple resolutions; ordinances and contracts move forward

The Muscatine City Council on April 3 approved first readings of three ordinances, adopted multiple resolutions and awarded a municipal contract during its regular meeting.

The council voted, by recorded voice votes listed on the record, to approve first readings of ordinances that would: relax side-yard setback requirements for certain very-narrow residential parcels (Title 10, Chapter 26, Section 2); remove the submission requirement for engineered plans for post-frame buildings under 1,440 square feet (Title 8, Chapter 1, Section 4 and Title 8, Chapter 10, Section 2); and permit the sale and consumption of beer, wine and champagne at the Musco Sports Center (Title 3, Chapter 5, Section 10). Each of those first readings was approved “as submitted” with all ayes recorded.

The council also adopted several resolutions on the consent and regular agendas, including setting public hearings for April 17, 2025, on proposed Amendment No. 1 to the FY2025 city budget and on the proposed FY2026 city budget; adopting an update to the city’s invocation policy; granting an easement to Interstate Power and Light Company on a portion of city-owned property at 1321 Nebraska Street; and awarding a construction contract for the Lake Park Boulevard over Mad Creek Bridge deck…
