Board updates: grant submitted for secure entrances; construction projects continue with delays

District facilities staff told the board the system submitted an application for a state major-improvement grant to complete secure entrances at remaining sites, naming a Bridgeport project among those targeted. Facilities staff reported progress on multiple ongoing projects. A safe-school-entrance project at a middle school (Brokercyburg) and design work for Liberty High School's secure entry were described as on target. Construction at a separate project (Simpson) has encountered soft soil in one section; the contractor over-excavated and added structural fill. Staff said the soil work pushed the projected substantial-completion date later; first estimates discussed October 12 and then a goal of November 1 to finish and move students in over Thanksgiving, subject to weather and material availability. "We think that as it dries out, the other soft soil will be fine," facilities staff said.

The board also heard a delegation from Liberty and Robertsburg principals requesting custom trophy cases for Liberty's lobby to display memorabilia; the quoted cost for the cases was $12,750 and Liberty staff said the school will contribute funds and seek district assistance for the remainder.
