Scurry County officials hear update on interprecinct trail; donations cover materials

Bailey, identified at the meeting as the county liaison officer, introduced Mark McDonald, the district chief for Disaster District 7 in Abilene, and described recent progress on the trail work. Bailey said the trail-builders have already placed 20 truckloads of “chat” donated by West Texas Rock and that hauling was provided by RLE. She said crews expect to finish the portion that has already been cut by the end of the week and will begin work on the remaining section next week, with a goal of about 7.5 miles of bicycle trail.
The trail plan also includes an entrance sign and work to roll and water the perimeter. Bailey said the county is waiting on a contractor to clean site materials before setting a firm date for finishing the perimeter trail. She also mentioned a culvert that could be used on the west side of the project and said the county is pursuing that option.
Mark McDonald, introduced as the disaster district chief who supervises county liaison officers across District 7, apologized for not attending earlier meetings and said his office has been “slammed.” He added that he was glad to visit the county and meet local staff.
Why it matters: the project combines donated materials and volunteer/contractor work to build local recreational infrastructure, potentially increasing access for bicyclists and other outdoor users within Scurry County.
